DelARES supports ham radio in Delaware in equipment, insurance, subscriptions and community support. In general, each ham operator maintains their own equipment but some things are for general use. This helps to defray the cost of the ham operators to maintain the infrastrucure in the county and support the public.

ARES and the DELARA club, in particular, maintain repeaters that are generrally free to use by any licensed ham operator which covers much of Delaware county and surrounding counties. In addition, a radio room is maintained at 2 sites , one of which is in the EOC, the other is for general use of those in the DELARA club and ARES. But both are vital in emergencies and community support.

DELARES is a non-profit 501c3 organization [EIN: 46-5356864 | Powell, Ohio] for the support of ham radio in Delaware County. Primarily, it supports Delaware ARES organization. The participants donate a significant amount of time and bring their own equipment to serve the Delaware community (and surrounding counties as well as nationally). We endeavor to limit further burden with dues (none) or other expenses. The donations of cash and ham equipment will be for benefit the Delaware amateur radio community and allow us to serve the community thru our communications expertise.

Donated cash will be used for ongoing costs and purchase of updated equipment. Donations of equipment will either be used for general infrastructure, sold or donated to select indivuals to promote amateur radio that otherwise might not be able to enjoy hobby/passion. For instance, climbing a radio tower can cost $1000 if the antenna needs to be replaced or repaired.
